Research and development research is different from the other types of research because instead of bringing new information to light, it studies the interaction between research and the production and evaluation of a new product. The action-research model shown in Figure 1 closely follows Lewin's repetitive cycle of planning, action, and measuring results. When actions are designed to achieve the intended consequences and to suppress conflict about the governing variables, a single-loop learning cycle usually ensues.
